POPTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Portland police say a man due to be released in less than a week has left early, escaping over a fence. The inmate was identified as 30-year-old Matthew Joseph Medlin, who was serving time for burglary, sex abuse and assault at the Columbia River Correctional Institute in north Portland. Medlin served 272 days, and had six left to serve. The police said he escaped early Wednesday. He was described as 5-feet-8, 185 pounds and bald, with tattoos on his face. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue T-shirt bearing the words Department of Corrections. His release date was May 6 at 7 a.m.
