NAZARETH, Pa. (AP) — The mayor of an eastern Pennsylvania borough is heading to trial on charges he stole $8,000 from a fire company social club.

Northampton County court records indicate that Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. waived his preliminary hearing on Monday. The 54-year-old faces a felony charge for allegedly stealing money from Vigilance Hose Company's social club while serving as its president from 1987 to 2013.

Court records indicate that cash was stolen from the social club between 2009 and 2013.

Defense attorney Robert Eyer couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Strye has said he doesn't intend to resign from office.

He remains free on $10,000 bail.
