SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (AP) — A former nurse at a Vermont prison has admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 31-year-old inmate.
Rebecca Parker pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of an inmate and reckless endangerment. The 40-year-old Springfield woman, a contracted dialysis nurse at the Southern State Correctional Facility, was sentenced to three years of probation.
State police say they were contacted by the state Corrections Department in February regarding a report of sexual misconduct between Parker and the inmate. Prosecutors say Parker and the inmate engaged in "sexual acts" while the inmate was receiving dialysis treatment.
Defense attorney Brian Marsicovetere says his client feels awful about what happened and is focused on trying to recover.
Prosecutors say Parker's nursing license has been revoked by the state.
