READING, Pa. (AP) -- A psychiatrist in eastern Pennsylvania is charged with issuing prescriptions to patients without a medical exam to feed their addictions or resell the drugs on the street. Authorities said Dr. Mohammed Abdul Kahn illegally wrote thousands of prescriptions for more than 145,000 pills to patients who went to his Reading or Pottsville offices to feed their addictions or sell the drugs on the street. The charges filed Wednesday come nearly a year after state and Berks County investigators raided Kahn's offices and seized patient records, along with more than $7 million from his personal and business bank accounts and $200,000 from a safe deposit box. Kahn says the allegations against him are false. He remains free pending further court action on drug and fraud charges and related counts.
