MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) -- A prosecutor says he's keeping open the investigation into the murder of a northwestern Pennsylvania man whose headless remains were found in a metal drum, even though the murder suspect has hanged himself in his jail cell.
Crawford County District Attorney Francis Schultz tells the Meadville Tribune (http://bit.ly/1esxOit ) he wants to consult with state police investigators to ensure nobody else was involved in 55-year-old Gerald VanDyke's death before closing the case.
Sixty-eight-year-old Richard Houy, of Cambridge Springs, hanged himself in the county jail last Saturday.
He was the father of VanDyke's longtime girlfriend and was charged with killing VanDyke on Sept. 14 with a hunting arrow then partially dismembering the body.
Schultz says there's nothing to indicate anybody else was involved in killing, but he wants to be sure.
