PITTSFIELD, Pa. (AP) -- A northwestern Pennsylvania man has died of smoke inhalation after helping his wife escape a fire at their home and, apparently, trying to fight the flames with a fire extinguisher. State police in Warren have identified the victim as 61-year-old Darwin Durlin, of Pittsfield. Pittsfield is about 100 miles north of Pittsburgh. Police say firefighters arrived at the home shortly before midnight Sunday to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Police say Durlin's wife was treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation at Warren General Hospital. A state police fire marshal says the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Police say Durlin was able to get his wife out of the home to his son, who also escaped, but wasn't able to get out himself after re-entering the home.
