SHIPPENSBURG — Payden Montana, a senior on the Berwick track and field team, smashed a state record today in the finals of the event.

Montana threw the shot put 51 feet, nearly a foot farther than the previous state record set in 1980 of 50 feet, 1 1/4 inches. Montana took first in the event, with second-place thrower, Keeley Suzenski of Berks Catholic, throwing for 44 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

We'll have more on the state meet in Saturday's edition. For now, watch video by our Adam Roberts below.
