Construction leads to backlog

TANK — Construction on Interstate 80 today has traffic backed up in between the Mifflinville and Conyngham exits in the eastbound lanes.

Workers were patching the bridge at Tank.

Later tonight, a contractor also expected to close the right lane of I-80 east at Mile 234 between the Lightstreet and Buckhorn exits to place rock on slopes. PennDOT expects to complete the work by 6 a.m. Friday.

It's part of a project that includes shoulder patching in both eastbound and westbound directions of I-80 between Buckhorn and Berwick, milling and paving on I-80 eastbound from Mifflinville to the Luzerne County line, and drainage work near the Columbia County rest area at the Luzerne County line.

This work is expected to be completed in early October.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the prime contractor on this $3.1 million project.
