BERWICK — Police found a bloodied man in an apartment in the 100 block of North Mulberry Street this morning, setting off a daylong investigation that still wasn't completed as of late Monday afternoon.

In a brief press release, Police Chief Ken Strish said officers found a large amount of blood on the sidewalk of the street around 9 a.m. this morning. Officers followed a blood trail, and located a man nearby with physical injuries.

He was removed from a second-floor apartment above a tattoo parlor on the block, and taken by ambulance to Berwick Hospital Center. From there he was flown to another hospital by helicopter.

Strish said an investigation is now going on to determine how the man was injured.

A state police forensics team arrived by mid-morning to gather evidence and document the scene.

Blood stains could be seen on steps leading to the second story at 110 N. Mulberry St.

A woman had reportedly called police after spotting blood there, but, out of fear, did not enter the building.

The Berwick police are asking anyone who may have seen a suspicious person or persons between midnight and 8 a.m. today in the 100 block of North Mulberry to contact them. They can be reached by calling the 9-1-1 center at 570-784-6300 and asking a dispatcher for a return call from detectives.
