NORTH CENTRE TWP. — Officials are hoping someone can tell them who drove a vehicle in circles through this township’s only park, digging deep ruts in the soft ground.

“It’s a shame someone has to do something like this,” said Supervisor Ron LeVan Jr.

The damage to North Centre Township Natural Park was discovered just before Christmas Eve, he said.

It looks like the vandal was driving a small- to mid-sized car or truck through the clearing of the small park, nestled between Route 93 and Fowlersville Road, just outside of Fowlersville, he said.

The joyride left ruts 4 to 5 inches deep in the clearing, which is meant for families to play frisbee and other outdoor games.

“We don’t want ruts in there, making people trip and fall,” he said.

So now the township will have to wait until the ground is soft again in the spring to fill the gouges with topsoil and roll them flat.

The park is a work in progress, he said. The township, volunteers, and Girl and Boy Scouts have put in time fixing it up and maintaining it, adding paths through the woods, pavilions, grills, picnic tables and a shale road leading to the picnic area.

Anyone with information about the damage is asked to call Briar Creek Township Police, 570-759-0354.
