VALLEY TWP. — Witnesses said a man was speeding just before his car wrecked with a truck and ended up on its roof along Continental Boulevard Monday morning, officials say.

The driver managed to crawl out of the overturned Mercury sedan on his own, according to Valley Township Fire Chief Mike Kull. He was taken by ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for minor injuries, he added.

As of press time, police had not released the man’s name.

Both he and the driver of an Ford F-150 truck were headed south toward Danville around 9:45 a.m. when they collided near the Hess Recreation Area covered bridge. The truck sustained damage to its passenger side, including a crumpled panel above the back wheel and scrapes along its length.

The driver of the truck, along with two small children buckled into child safety seats in the back seat, did not appear injured.

The sedan ended up on its roof just past the Route 54 intersection with Jerseytown Road.

Other motorists told Krull the driver of the Mercury was speeding before the wreck, he said.

“That guy was driving like a maniac, from what the witnesses say,” Kull said.

Milton State Police are investigating the accident.
